چکیده
We present progress results of a new survey for bright QSOs (V < 14.5, R < 15.4, BJ < 15.2) covering the whole sky at high galactic latitudes, |b| > 30. The surface density of QSOs brighter than BJ = 14.8 turns out to be 2.9 ± 0.8 · 10deg. The optical Luminosity Function at 0.04 < z ≤ 0.3 shows significant departures from the standard pure luminosity evolution, providing new insights in the modelling of the QSO phenomenon.

Quintessence – the energy density of a slowly evolving scalar field – may constitute a dynamical form of the homogeneous dark energy in the universe. We review the basic idea and indicate observational tests which may distinguish quintessence from a cosmological constant.

The formation of the first stars and quasars marks the transformation of the universe from its smooth initial state to its clumpy current state. In popular cosmological models, the first sources of light began to form at a redshift z = 30 and reionized most of the hydrogen in the universe by z = 7. Current observations are at the threshold of probing the hydrogen reionization epoch. The study o...

An exact inhomogeneous solution of Einstein’s field equations is shown to be able to inflate in a non-uniform way in the early universe and explain anomalies in the WMAP power spectrum data. It is also possible for the model to explain the accelerated expansion of the universe by late-time inhomogeneous structure. e-mail: [email protected]
